With AI, diagnoses go from 5 days to 4 hours, saving lives and combating resistance.
Biofy and Meta Llama: AI that revolutionizes diagnostics and saves lives
In the fight against hospital infections, every hour counts. And when we talk about bacterial resistance, the challenge is even greater. With this in mind, Biofy Technologies, in partnership with Meta and the power of Llama 3.2 90B, developed the Abby Antibiotics Recommender — an artificial intelligence platform capable of reducing the diagnostic and ideal treatment recommendation time from 5 days to just 4 hours.

The challenge: infections and bacterial resistance
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), antimicrobial resistance is responsible for more than 1 million deaths per year, potentially reaching 10 million by 2050.
For doctors and hospitals, quickly diagnosing and prescribing the right antibiotic is vital, but it is not simple. Bacteria are constantly evolving, and the wrong choice can cost lives and accelerate the resistance problem.
The solution: AI and synthetic data for accurate diagnostics
Biofy created Abby to quickly identify the bacteria, check which antibiotics it is resistant to, and indicate the most effective treatment.
The secret? Synthetic data generated with Llama 3.2 90B.
Initial base: 720 thousand bacterial strains from NCBI.
Expansion with AI: over 150 thousand synthetic variations created with Llama, simulating mutations and new genetic patterns.
Cutting-edge technology: use of Nanopore MinION for sequencing, Oracle AI Vector Search for pattern detection, and OCI Search for quick queries.
This innovative approach allows for more reliable, personalized, and scalable diagnostics.
Impact: numbers that save lives
The results speak for themselves:
Diagnostic time: from 5 days to 4 hours (-96.7%)
Lives saved: estimated 2,000 in the first year
Accuracy: personalized recommendations considering bacterial resistance
“Infections are one of the main causes of death in hospitals. A platform that can consider antibiotic resistance and recommend effective treatment can save lives.”
— Paulo Perez, CEO of Biofy Technologies
Why this matters for the future of health
Abby not only speeds up diagnostics and improves treatments but also represents a step forward against bacterial resistance. By optimizing the use of antibiotics, we help preserve their effectiveness for future generations.
This innovation is a real example of how generative AI, when applied strategically and responsibly, can transform medicine and save thousands of lives.
